Muna and Broad Waikerie Shirt

Siobhan, a 30-something white Disabled woman, stands leaning on a hot pink cane. She wears a blush pink animal print shirt with soft collar, boxy fit and high low split hem, and black tapered knit pants.

I’m still catching up on the backlog of garments I sewed last year, by the considered system of ‘take a photo and write a blog post of a shirt as I wear it’. This is View B of the Muna and Broad Waikerie Shirt, a boxy shirt with yoke which features “an inverted box pleat at the back and a high-low hem with beautifully finished, mitered side splits.” Continue reading “Muna and Broad Waikerie Shirt”

Style Arc Dotty Blouse, Gillian Anderson style

Siobhan, a young white disabled woman, wears a faux wrap, long sleeve, cream satin blouse, black skinny jeans and black ankle boots. She is standing in a garden archway and smiling.

Have you ever had one of those projects which hibernates in a pile somewhere because you just can’t bring yourself to start it? That was this project.

I received this beautiful mascarpone satin from The Remnant Warehouse as a gift many years ago, and instantly knew it was destined to become a Style Arc Dotty Blouse. However, I let it linger as I didn’t trust myself to work with tricksy polyester satin (after a particularly bad experience with some nasty Spotlight satin), and I wasn’t sure I could convert the pattern to work with one-sided fabric.

A line drawing of the Style Arc Dotty Blouse, a long-sleeve top with bagged-out double yoke, front twist, slight gathers at sleeve cuff and back into yoke, longer back hem and 2cm wide slip-on cuff without buttons.

Sewcialists Mini Challenge – Sew Your Birth Year

Recently, the Sewcialists announced a mini sewing challenge – Sew Your Birth Year. I didn’t have the time nor energy to sew a whole outfit in a week, but as I love dressing up and I especially love the 90s, I was all in for a dress up session!

A compilation of an old Lee advert and a photo of Siobhan. In the advert, a young, thin white woman with long blonde hair leans against a wall. She wears a green and blue check shirt tucked into high waisted, straight, blue jeans with a thick black belt. In the other photo Siobhan, a young white Disabled woman, wears a muted red, green and white check shirt tucked into dark blue jeans with a brown leather belt. She is attempting to emulate the model's stance, leaning against a piece of her front porch with hands in pockets.

Yet another Burda shirt, and RIP Burdastyle dot com

Note: I’m still catching up on my creations from 2019 – so bear with me, I think this is the last one!

Siobhan, a young white woman with short brown hair and tortoiseshell glasses, stands in an abundant garden arch. She wears a crisp button up shirt in a cream cotton with blue geometric patterning, slim black pants and leopard print loafers. She is smiling, and accompanied by a fluffy black and white cat.

What’s there to say about a pattern you’ve made over and over again? Well, about 1000 words, judging by this blog post! I’ve been sewing less lately, but in a more focused manner – creating those garments I’ll get a lot of wear out of, instead of one off fantasy items (Regency Gown and bonnet excluded!). This means button up shirts! Continue reading “Yet another Burda shirt, and RIP Burdastyle dot com”

A Regency gown fit for Lizzy Bennet

Happy new year! Let’s cast our minds back to October and my much preferred holiday, Halloween. My friends and I planned to have a quiet morning tea* wearing costumes, which naturally I wanted to make myself. I was quite pleased with the end result, so prepare for lots of pictures!

Siobhan, a young white woman, stands in a garden archway. She wears a white, empire-waist Regency gown with gathered bodice and full skirt, with puff sleeves gathered to a cuff. She has short purple lacey gloves, a fan, and a straw and fabric bonnet.
Spoiler alert: this is what I made.

Ottobre retro-style “modern classic pants”

A while back, I mentioned the secondhand fabric collection that my friend Lauren had kindly sent me. After sewing a Burda Tie Front Blouse from the Swiss voile, I was eager to move onto this beautiful retro print fabric. And what better match for a brown bold floral than wide leg pants?

Siobhan stands in front of a garden fence. She wears a brown turtleneck long sleeve top, brown with orange and pink floral print wide leg high waisted pants, brown block heel boots, and tortoiseshell glasses. She is accompanied by a black and white cat, and is smiling.
Say hi to Patrick! Wearing my Named Paola Turtleneck Tee.

Sew Over It Molly Top and Maria Denmark self-drafted stretch skirt

Unlike some sewists, my sewing output isn’t that great to warrant multiple garments per post. So you know when I do have a few creations together, they are super-simple makes. These two fit that description: easy-to-sew wardrobe staples made entirely from scraps. They were sewn way back in March (or earlier), and only photographed recently!

Siobhan stands in front of a weatherboard house. She wears a drop shoulder knit tee with grey/black striped body and concrete grey neckband and sleeves, with black straight knee length skirt, black leggings and ankle boots. She is smiling.

Burda Tie Front Blouse 10/2010 #118B

A few months ago, my friend Lauren from Instagram offered to send me some fabric from a dedicated craft op shop. Well, fabric and op shops are my dream combination, so I couldn’t say no! Lauren was very good at picking fabrics according to my preferences (natural fibres, brown earthy tones) and I’m grateful to her for her generosity.

Siobhan stands in front of a blue weatherboard wall. She wears an earthy brown, fern-print short sleeve blouse with comically large bow at neck. She is smiling.

Linen Burda Tie Up Pants

It might seem boring to some, but I really enjoy reading about people’s basic creations. I find it interesting to see what people wear everyday, as opposed to special garments which might only be worn once (which are of course, interesting in a different way!). With that said, today I’m sharing my second pair of black pants this year.

Siobhan stands in front of a tree-lined fence. She wears a pink tank top, black elastic waist straight leg linen pants and brown loafers. She is smiling.
